Selective grinding:

3 objectives:

1. To make C.O. equal C.R.

2. To re-direct occlusal forces along the axes of the teeth

3. To distribute occlusal forces to as many teeth as possible

In protrusive movement: BU-LL, DU-ML

  • reduce DL inclines of max buccal cusps
  • reduce MB inclines of mand lingual cusps

The laterotrusive side: BU-LL

  • reduce lingual inclines of buccal cusps buccal cusps of max teeth
  • reduce buccal inclines of lingual cusps of mand teeth

The mediotrusive side: carefully select the cusps

  • if select max lingual cusp, reduce DB inclines
  • if select mand buccal cusp, reduce ML incline
  • NEVER grind both cusps
