Difference between the Begg and Edgewise appliance in relation to biomechanics and types of tooth movement possible

In the Begg appliance, friction was minimized because the area of contact between the narrow ribbon arch bracket and the arch wire was very small and the force of the wire against the bracket was also small. Begg's strategy for anchorage was tipping/uprighting. It is a complete appliance in that it allows good control of crown and root positioning in all three planes of space.
